7 Easy, Healthy 3-Ingredient (or less) Dips
In honor of Superbowl Sunday and in the spirit of creating food confidence, I’m spreading the love…for homemade dips.
The common food denominator in these dips is salsa — a most loved superfood! The main health benefit of salsa comes from the tomatoes. Cooked tomatoes (found in most jarred salsa) are a rich source of the antioxidant lycopene, which has been shown to help prevent heart disease and prostate cancer.
These dips can’t get any easier, they’re made with salsa plus just one other ingredient. So, whip up a batch of your family’s secret salsa recipe (doesn’t every family have one?) or buy your favorite jar and get mixing! But remember, the dip will only be as tasty as the salsa you put in it, so choose wisely (and get creative!).
Serve these dips with anything you like — veggies, corn chips, tortillas, pita chips, etc. I love to serve dip with blanched asparagus, broccoli, and cauliflower, plus steamed and sliced red potatoes, sliced cucumbers, and whole cherry tomatoes…but no pressure to use veggies (well….kinda).
Salsa-Guacamole
This one is my secret weapon and only 2 ingredients! I just mix a few tablespoons of my mom’s Famous Salsa in with some chopped avocado and I’m done.
Salsa-Bean Dip
Heat one can refried beans and mix with about 3/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese. Add salsa, mix and serve.
Salsa-Cream Cheese Dip
Combine 12 oz soft cream cheese (can use light), 12 oz salsa, and 4-5 Tbsp Cabot Shredded Jack Cheddar cheese. Mix and serve.
Salsa-Yogurt Dip
Combine 1 cup fat free Fage or Chobani Greek yogurt with 1/2 cup salsa. Mix and serve.
Salsa-Ranch Dip
Combine 1 cup salsa with 1/2 cup Ranch dressing. Mix and serve.
Salsa-Sour Cream Dip
Mix 1 cup sour cream (can use light) with 1 cup salsa. Mix and serve.
Salsa-Cottage Cheese Dip
In a food processor, blend 1 cup 1% cottage cheese and 1/2 cup salsa. Add chopped cilantro and serve.
I hope you enjoy one of these dips…and please comment by sharing YOUR favorite way to use salsa!
