This week’s finds focus on healthy fats! These are a few of my go-to healthy fats for fueling my body and my brain. No diet is complete without fat and these are the types that should make it onto your plate.
Not a huge salmon fan? Try Barramundi….it’s the other salmon! Barramundi is a low fat, very versatile, mild flavored fish that is rich in omega 3 fats. It’s great any way you prepare it, but my favorite fish prep is the pan sear. With a side of fresh veg, this is one of my favorite dinner meals. You can find it at Giant, Whole Foods and Safeway.
Avocado is my go-to salad staple. My day isn’t complete without avocado in it somewhere! I love it plain, in salads, spread onto sandwiches or as a guacamole. I buy mine almost exclusively at Costco. I find that grocery store avocado tends to ripen way too fast. Costco sells in bulk and they are always perfect.
I love the unique taste of Pumpkin seeds (aka Pepitas). I add them to granola, oatmeal, trail mix, and toss into my salads. My favorite compliment to Pepita is a hot and creamy dish…try toasting them first and then sprinkle onto butternut risotto. They add great flavor and balance to meals and are a healthy, delicious fat!
I can’t have a healthy fats list and not include my all-time favorite….PEANUT BUTTER! PB is chock full of healthy fats and makes my day complete. 🙂 I’ve been telling my clients to buy Crazy Richard’s for years. It simply is the best tasting natural peanut butter on the planet. You can find it at Giant and Safeway.
My next pick may be somewhat controversial. I don’t subscribe to the “eggs are bad” school of thought, so they are pretty much a staple in my house. I like Eggland’s Best because they’re also high in healthy omega 3 fats. My husband makes a killer egg white omelet and we enjoy it best with spinach, mushrooms, and black beans.
That’s it for this week. Here’s to enjoying healthy fats! Until next time….
