Friday Food Finds: FNCE Edition
I was at my annual Food and Nutrition Expo and Conference (FNCE) last week in Chicago. It’s a super busy weekend packed with meetings, educational sessions and exhibitors. I consider myself “in the know” about new food brands and I rarely come across anything in the expo hall worth noting, but this year I was pleasantly surprised.
Below are a few fun food finds that I hadn’t seen before and that you may want to keep an eye out for:
You know I was happy to see Kraut Chips and these were delicious! Why I love it: Sauerkraut was the first ingredient. They were tangy, crunchy and perfect dippers for guac or hummus! Snag yourself a bag (or two!) for a discount at Thrive Market or from my Amazon store.
Coconut Jerky? Yes. If you like coconut, you’re going to love this jerky. Why I love it: it’s vegan, but not made from textured soy like most of the other non-meat jerky’s on the market. As they say on their site, it’s the first and only raw, vegan, gluten-free, soy-free, jerky known to humanity. It’s a little pricey in my opinion, but if you love it, you love it. Get some here.
Zupa Noma organic ready to drink cold soups were by far my favorite food find at FNCE. You West coasters may have tried this many a time, but I’ve never seen it here in the Washington, DC area. These were a-mazing! Why I love it: unlike juice in a bottle (which is full of sugar), soup in a bottle is legit health food. It’s a great way to get in your veggies without added anything…plus it was seriously delicious. I loved every flavor, but especially the Cucumber Avocado (so refreshing!) and the Yellow Pepper Turmeric. Get a sample pack of flavors from the website or try some tomorrow via Amazon Prime! 🙂
This Alvarado St. sprouted bread was not only super tasty, it was innovative! Why I love it: sprouted bread is my preference and this tasty slice is super unique. It’s made with organic sprouted whole wheat blended with coffee flour and organic roasted coffee. According to the reps I spoke with, coffee flour is made from the discarded coffee “cherry” that surrounds the coffee bean. I’m always on the look out for new ways to eat bread, and this one certainly fits the bill. Look for it at these locations.
I already love Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides, but this stuff is next level. It’s coffee creamer that makes your coffee more like a meal! Why I love it: with 10 grams of protein and 9 grams of fat per serving, this dairy free powder is a serious way to upgrade your cuppa Joe. I can imagine many applications, but for now it’s all about homemade Gingerbread lattes. Get your stash here!
Simple Mills is a truly healthy line of baking products. They have only a few simple ingredients and nothing you can’t pronounce or recognize. Why I love it: the simplicity of the line and the variety of products they offer. Makes me feel a little better about baking from a box! You can find most of their line at Thrive Market!
My clients are always looking for quick and convenient meal options and these frozen meals from Grainful were a pretty great food find. Why I love it: savory oats? Yes please. I love oats for breakfast so why not try them in a savory bowl? Grainful uses steel cut oats (the real kind, not instant) in the same way you would use rice. The meals were super tasty with minimally processed ingredients. Their whole line is gluten free certified, contains no GMO ingredients, and is Whole Grains Council certified. If you have to eat frozen meals, these are the way to go!
