Frequently Asked Questions?
Are there certain people who SHOULD NOT fast?
Yes. Fasting + Food is not for everyone. Fasting is not recommended for people who have a history of disordered eating, or who are exceptionally depleted of nutrients or fatigued. Pregnant or lactating women should not fast. Individuals with cancer should consult a knowledgeable practitioner before beginning any fasting program. You also should not fast before surgery or for up to six weeks afterwards while your body is intensively healing. You should not fast if you have a history of gallbladder or liver disease. In fact, if you have an existing medical condition at all, I recommend that you ask your doctor if fasting is a safe choice for you.
What if I don’t have a Facebook account? Can I still participate?
Yes, you can absolutely still participate in the program! All of the materials are housed inside the program website, not on Facebook. The Facebook group is just to ask questions, get support and be a part of the community, but it’s not required to do the program!
How many days is the fast?
The fast is a 6-day commitment. One pre-fast day, 4 fast days and 1 post-fast day.
Will I lose weight on the fast?
Many past participants have lost weight. Most lost an average between 5-10 pounds and experienced a decrease in weight circumference (i.e. belly fat) while fasting, but individual results will vary.
How long do I have access to the fast?
You will have access to the materials and the Facebook support group for life! You can re-use the fasting program over and over again to achieve long-term results.
How is fasting + food different from Intermittent Fasting?
Fasting + Food is different than intermittent fasting in that it is a prolonged fast lasting 4 days. Prolonged fasts trigger a process in the body called autophagy. And while it may seem counter-intuitive to fast and eat food at the same time, at a certain calorie level and with the right macronutrient mix, it IS possible!
How long do you have to fast to reach cell autophagy?
The autophagy process initiates after 18-20 hours of fasting, with maximum benefits at about 48–72 hours.
How many times should I complete the fast?
We recommend fasting for three consecutive months to achieve the best results.
Do I need to buy a ketone or glucose meter?
While not absolutely required to successfully complete the fast, testing your ketones and blood glucose throughout the process will help you gain a better sense of what is happening metabolically during the program.
Are the recipes FODMAP friendly?
Yes, all of the recipes are provided with substitutions for those who are sensitive to FODMAPs.
Are the recipes vegan?
Yes! All of the recipes are vegetarian with vegan options.
Are the recipes gluten free?
Yes, all of the recipes are gluten free and safe for those with gluten sensitivities or Celiac disease.
